The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned for the first time since 2018. The show streamed live on October 15th on Amazon Prime Video. It is now available to watch on the lingerie company’s YouTube channel.
History
The first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show took place in New York City in 1995. It became a popular annual fashion show that many looked forward to.
However, People reports, as time passed, people began to questioning the company’s lack of diversity in their models. Because of this and a string of controversies involving the brand’s owner, Ed Razek, ratings continued to drop, so the show was cancelled in 2019.
This is the first time the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has occurred since 2018.
Who was there?
The show promised inclusivity but also included the popular models from the 90s and 00s. There were supermodels spanning generations, from Kate Moss and Tyra Banks to Candace Swanpoel and Adriana Lima.
Plus size supermodels Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser also stunned on the runway.
The show also included Valentina Sampaio and Alex Consani, which are the first trans models in history to walk for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Performances
The runway was not just for the models, there were also so notable performers at the fashion show. The show started off with Lisa from BLACKPINK performing, and she performed later in the show.
There were also performances by Tyla and guitarist Orianthi. The big finale and surprise was a glittering, choreography filled performance by Cher.
After Party
There was even a fun afterparty at Crane Club. Many of the models and performers showed up.
According to TMZ, some other celebrities that showed up for the afterparty are Ice Spice, Teyana Taylor, professional basketball player Angel Reese, and Olympic medal winning gymnast Suni Lee.
Fan Reactions
Fans reactions are divided with many people complaining that the runway continues to lack diversity and inclusivity. Some also criticized the minimized production.
There were also complaints about some of the models’ runway walks, and many fans have expressed disappointment in the runway walk of Tyra Banks after her role in judging models for America’s Next Top Model.
It is yet to be seen if the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will continue as an annual show.
